Introduction to Software Defined Radio

Software Defined Radio: Getting started cheaply with software defined radio!

Scope:

At the end of the session, we hope you will know how to:

  • Install the RTL-SDR drivers for your OS
  • Run an SDR application
  • Listen to FM broadcasts
  • Learn how to use an upconverter
  • Basic antenna setups
  • Have a basic idea where to go next!

There may be some kits available on the night, including an RTL-SDR dongle, and upconverter from http://nooelec.com . A dongle + upconverter kit comes to around AUD$70 delivered. You can of course source parts from elsewhere! http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr Has more information, and compatible dongles.
